There are few sports which athletes can go at it alone, of these even fewer are to be taken to the ocean waters and perfect waves. Mexico will see not one but two SURF OPENs in the next two months, Los Cabos OPEN of SURF in its second edition and the ACAPULCO SURF OPEN 2014 in its third edition. Both are ASP -Association of Surfing Professionals events.

Local press of Mexico reported on June 5th on preparations for the third edition of the Acapulco SURF OPEN. The four star ASP event will take place in beach El Revolcadero, State of Guerrero.

Over 150 national and international ASP surfers are expected from July 5 to July 13th. Local press assure that local surfers of Guerrero will play a leading role in the sport event. The event will be broadcasted live to an expected audience of half a million.

EL Mexicano reported that “all is ready and good to go” for the 6 Star ASP Los Cabos OPEN of SURF set for June 16th to June 22nd. Inscriptions are full -all places taken. Over 220 athletes will take to Zippers beach. Of these 70 athletes are women debuting and surfing for the tenth stop of the Qualification Series. 8 million viewers in the US alone are expected to watch the event live as it streams through ASP site.

“The best board to ride (in Los Cabos) is your favorite high performance short board,” ASP says.

The addition of the event is a historic step in surfing, as the Los Cabos Open of Surf represents the first Women’s ASP 6-Star competition in Mexico, contributing to the sport’s rich global history.

“There is only one other women’s qualification series event in North America and having the Los Cabos Open of Surf is a huge benefit to our tour,” Brian Robbins, ASP North America Tour Manager, said.

Zippers will see top athletes from Africa, Australasia, Europe, Hawaii, Japan, North America, and South America. Including Josh Kerr, Brett Simpson y Dion Atkinson ranking 7, 34 and 26 of the WCT World Championship Tour.

“Zippers…is mainly a right point Beach break, it breaks best on a solid south swell and a medium tide, with shape at 4 to 5 foot, the bottom is sand over boulders. The takeoff is a short steep fast drop and then it's a fast lippy wave with a few good sections to hit!”” ASP describes the waves in location.

“The easiest way to paddle out is from the inside beach break through the channel. On a big day sit way outside! Be careful...if you wipe out on the takeoff you will end up on the rocks!,” ASP warns.
