Ocean Wine Aging Technique to Revolutionize Wine Industry
A new process to age wine was presented in US-Florida. Wines are being aged in barrels spending up to 2 years 60 feet under the ocean waters of the Bay of Charleston. The process is reported to be revolutionizing the wining industry. 

New Study Reveals the Mystery of the Origin of Water on Earth
New study of the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute WHOI assures that the origin of water on Earth corresponds to the formation of the planet. The study disagrees with the standing theories that water appeared in the planet over time due to volcanic activity and dismisses the theory that water arrived on the planet riding celestial bodies and comets. Scientists of WHOI stated that Earth has been a “wet” planet from the start.

Pacific Atoll of Kiribati Final Destination of Amelia Earhart Lost Plane
Fragments of the lost plane of Amelia Earhart were identified in the Atoll of the Pacific Republic of Kiribati. The finding ends the search for Amelia Earhart missing final destination which has been active since 1937.

“Ocean of Data,” Reveals Malaspina Expedition Details
The exhibition an “Ocean of Data” unfolded the discoveries made during the Malaspina expedition on October 17th in Malaga and November 9th in Madrid Spain. The exhibition took to the study of modern ocean issues, acidification, industrial revolution, plastic contamination and fish stock populations. Over 250 experts took part in the expedition which took them around the world for nine months. The expedition became internationally known for opposing the reports of massive plastic islands in the ocean and assuring that fish stocks are actually larger than believed.

Indonesia “Walking Shark” New Flag Specie to Become Environmental Ambassador
CI Conservation International scientists participated in an investigation which concluded with the discovery of new specie of shark. Shark measures 80 centimeters in length and was discovered in the island of Maluku west of New Guiney. Specie Hemiscyllium halmahera is being considered as a “flag specie” representing its group for Indonesia. Conservation efforts would flag the specie as an “Ambassador” for ecological efforts. The small shark –harmless to humans uses its fins to “walk under water” and gained its alias from the press who named it the “walking shark”. 

Hawaii Volcanic Eruption Mobilizes National Guard
In the US-Hawaii volcanic activity has led to the mobilization of the National Guard. Volcanic flow is reported to move towards settlements, agriculture plantations and other developed areas. Hawaii is considered one of the most active volcanic islands of the Pacific and the world.

Australia Plan for the Conservation of Great Barrier Questioned
EFE reported that the proposal drafted by the Government of Australia for the preservation and conservation of the Great Coral Barrier is flawed. The plan ignores the impact on climate change on the zone –science community stated.

NASA GODDARD Says 2014 Antarctica Ice Surface Reached Maximum Record
NASA GODDARD Space Flight Center revealed that the ice surrounding the Antarctica reached a maximum record this year expanding its surface into the oceans of the south. Data was compared to years as far back as 1970.

Mediterranean Basin Study Tracks Globally Threatened Turtle Specie
Spain professors of Biology and Genetics of the University of Barcelona assured that turtles Caretta-Caretta –most abundant specie of the Mediterranean colonized the basin in the past glacier era 20 thousand to 200 thousand years ago. The specie is listed as “threatened” globally with populations in Japan, Oman, Australia, Caribbean, East North America and other regions such as Greece, Turkey, Cyprus and Libya.

Robot Fleet Observes Marine Open Ocean Life Forms
The National Oceanography Centre deployed a fleet of seven robotic vehicles into the ocean off southwest England this week, in the most ambitious project of its kind in Europe. The vehicles are aiming to travel up to 300 miles over the next 20 days, and will be collecting scientific data about ocean processes and marine life.

Italy EurOCEAN 2014 Conferences Concludes with Rome Declaration for Blue Growth
During the EurOCEAN 2014 conference in Italy over 340 European scientists, policy-makers and other experts, including representatives from the National Oceanography Centre, concluded on a common vision of priorities for marine research and action until 2020. The conference ended with the publication of the Rome Declaration –document which presents a shared goal of how marine scientists can work together to address the important challenges facing society.

A paper published in Environmental Research Letters by NOC scientist Dr Svetlana Jevrejeva provides valuable new information about the probability of a sea-level rise reaching of 180cm by 2100.

NOAA Mission Discovers New Coral California Species
A NOAA-led research team has discovered a new species of deep-sea coral and a nursery area for catsharks and skates in the underwater canyons located close to the Gulf of Farallones and Cordell Bank national marine sanctuaries off the Sonoma coast.
