Nature Publishes Four New Papers on Pluto´s Ocean
On December 1 Phys reported on a new study which revealed new insights on Pluto´s Ocean. Four new papers on Oceans of the “most distant” planet of the Solar System were published by Nature. William McKinnon Professor of the Washington University in St. Louis co-author of two of the papers assured that Pluto´s ocean is rich in ammonia. Studies aimed to answer whether the bodies of water in the celestial body can host life.
New Zealand University Studies Natural Ocean Acidification and Ecological Impacts
The Economist reported on December 3 on a new study of ocean acidification. The study of researchers of the University of Otago New Zealand was published in the Proceedings of the Royal Society. The study focused on acidification happening naturally in vents and ecological implications.
Australian Researcher Releases New Top Ten Local Best Beaches
On December 5 BBC reported on a new top ten ranking for Australia's best beaches. The ranking composed by researcher Brad Farmer topped the remote Indian Ocean beach of Coosies in Cocos Island as number one. Following in the ranking is Nudey Beach in Queensland and Moonee Beach in New South Wales.
Vendee Globe Leaders Shot Smashing the Southern Ocean
Sailing World released on December 1 on what they described as “unprecedented footage of the Vendée Globe frontrunners smashing through the Southern Ocean”. The video captured the leading sailors French sailor Armel Le Cléac'h and Brit Alex Thomson as they passed the Kerguelen Islands deep in the Southern Indian Ocean.
“Marine Microscopic Organisms Acting as Pollinators of Ocean Plants,” New Study Says
Nature World News reported on December 5 on new studies on how aquatic plants reproduce. On land bees and insects play a role in pollination and perpetuation of the Plant Kingdom. Now Oceanographers assure that there are microscopic crustaceans who are acting as pollinators under the sea. Researchers from the National Autonomous University of Mexico released their findings.
“The Future Ocean” Developing New International Network for Ocean Research
On December 1 the Future Ocean reported on the development of a new International Network for integrative ocean researchers. “The Future Ocean welcomes 100 international experts for integrative ocean research for developing the scope for new international transdisciplinary ocean research activities in a workshop on 4-5 December 2016,” the organization reported on its initial efforts.
Smithsonian Studies Bivalves Expansion in Natural Disasters
On December 5 the Smithsonian Magazine revealed secrets of a ship-sinking specie of clam which conquered the ocean midst natural disasters. Researchers revealed links between bivalves species and natural disasters and how ecosystems were affected focusing.
Conservation International New Project The Ocean Health Index Goes Operational
Conservation International reported on December 2 on the project the Ocean Health Index. “The Ocean Health Index is a decision-making tool and framework for conserving the human-ocean ecosystem because people need a healthy ocean,” the organization reported. The Index is the first assessment tool that scientifically measures key elements from all dimensions of the ocean’s health to guide decision makers toward the sustainable use of the ocean.
World Surf League to Slam 2016 at PipeMasters
The World Surf League reported on December 6 on their look forward to close out the year and World Tour. Jordy Smith took the latest event of the Triple Crown -Vans World Cup as the QS rankings for World Tour Qualification settled. The last event of the Triple Crown and the last event of the year will bring the showdown to Pipe Masters Pipeline Hawaii.
2016 Atlantic Hurricane Season Debrief Reveals Strongest Season in Past Five Years
On December 2 Scuttebutt Sailing News debriefed the 2016 Hurricane Season. “The six-month 2016 Atlantic hurricane season, which annually extends from June 1 to November 30, had the most storms since 2010 and was the first season that saw more storms than normal since 2012,” the report says. Hurricane Matthew -which caused hundreds of deaths and millions of evacuated from Haiti, Cuba and the Caribbean to Florida and US cities was the worst storm of the Season.

Vendee Globe 2016 Edition Breaking More Records
On December 5 Vendee Globe reported that a new record had been set to Cape Leeuwin. “Armel Le Cléac’h smashed the Vendée Globe race reference for the passage from Les Sables d’Olonne to Cape Leeuwin early this morning, breaking the mark set by François Gabart in December 2012 by an incredible five days 14 hours and 26 minutes,” Vendee Globe reported. This is the second record set by this year's race edition.
NASA Cassini Diving in Saturn's Rings with Particle Detection Technology Green to Go
On November 30 Forbes reported that NASA Cassini Spacecraft will start the first of a dramatic set of manoeuvres scheduled to dive through Saturn's rings for the first time. "We have two instruments that can sample particles and gases as we cross the ring plane, so in a sense Cassini is also 'grazing' on the rings," NASA assured.
Rider Lewis Crathern Breaks UK Kitesurfing Height Jump Record
PKR Kiteboarding reported on November 22 that UK Kitesurfer Lewis Crathern broke the UK record of height jump with 22.3 meters. Winds of up to 48 knots helped the rider secure the record. Lewis flew into the air with a North Kite Vegas of 9 meters span.
World Kiteboarding League Elite at Caledonia Final Showdown
World Kiteboarding League reported on the first days of December on the Women´s Battle at the final of New Caledonia. The event is the final event of the year for the League. “Many of the World’s strongest kites are already traveling to New Caledonia to participate at the finals of the freestyle Kitesurfing World Championship WKL -World Kiteboarding League,” organizers had warned.

On December 5 the Scripps Institution of Oceanography at the University of California San Diego released a study on reef fish grazing behaviors to understand coral reef health. The team examined the unique grazing roles of algae-eating herbivores on coral reefs to learn more about how they help keep corals from being overgrown by seaweeds.
